NEW YORK: Miss America R’Bonney Gabriel made history as she became the first Filipina American to win the Miss Universe 2023 pageant.
After an intense evening filled with plenty of glitz and glamour, Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel was crowned Miss Universe 2022.
The 28-year-old model and fashion designer from Houston, Texas held hands with 1st runner-up, Venezuela’s Amanda Dudamel, as she held her breath with her eyes closed in the moments leading up to the announcement of her win.
The Miss Universe 2022 competition was held in New Orleans, Louisiana – meaning R’Bonney won the title in her home country.
Miss Dominican Republic, Andreina Martínez, placed 2nd runner up.

The 28-year-old beauty is from Houston, Texas. A graduate of the University of North Texas, R’Bonney first became involved in pageantry in 2020; she placed in the top 5 finalists of Miss Kemah USA 2020, before going on to compete in Miss Texas USA 2021 and Miss USA 2022 pageants.

R’Bonney’s father, Remigio Bonzon “R. Bon” Gabriel, was born in Manila and immigrated to the United States when he was 25.
