Islamabad: Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani has reached out to key international organizations, including the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the European Union. In letters addressed to their leadership, he has raised concerns about the recent judgment by the Supreme Court of India regarding the status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Minister Jilani emphasized that, according to international law, domestic laws and court decisions cannot determine the final status of a globally recognized disputed territory. He condemned the Indian authorities’ actions to solidify their control over IIOJK and the ongoing suppression of the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting India’s unilateral actions since August 5, 2019, Minister Jilani expressed alarm over attempts to alter the demographic and political landscape of IIOJK. He described these measures as a clear effort to disempower the local Kashmiri community in their own land.
Minister Jilani labeled the recent Indian Supreme Court judgment as a violation of international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 122 (1957). He stressed that this endorsement does not override the provisions outlined in the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.
Calling on the UN Security Council, Minister Jilani urged for the full implementation of its resolutions on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. He also called on India to cease human rights violations in IIOJK, reverse all illegal actions taken since August 5, 2019, and respect the international community’s call for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding issue.
