GDRFA Dubai Marks International Day of Sign Languages

DUBAI: The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) celebrated the International Day of Sign Languages on September 23, reaffirming its commitment to fostering inclusion and empowering people of determination.

As part of the initiative, GDRFA staff at Dubai International Airport – Terminal 3 welcomed travelers using sign language, whether from the people of determination community or the general public. The gesture aimed to raise awareness of sign language as a vital tool for communication and to promote Dubai’s image as a city of openness and compassion.

Counters dedicated to the event were decorated with flags bearing the phrase “Welcome to Dubai” in sign language, along with awareness stickers highlighting inclusivity and mutual respect.

Commenting on the occasion, Brigadier Abdul Samad Hussein Al Blooshi, Assistant Director General for the Sector of Leadership and Future, said:
“Sign language is more than just a means of communication; it is a humanitarian message that embodies the values of compassion and coexistence upon which Dubai was founded. Our celebration of this international day reflects our commitment to ensuring that our services are inclusive and accessible to everyone, including people of determination.”

He added that promoting the culture of sign language across society was an institutional responsibility, ensuring Dubai remains a global model for inclusivity and human communication without barriers.

The celebration reflects GDRFA Dubai’s sustainable approach to placing people of determination at the center of its services, while fostering daily values of peace, respect, and humanity in the city.
