Karachi: President of PDM and leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that in view of the economic situation, consideration may be given to extending the term of the assembly as per the constitution and the elections may be postponed by one year.
Talking to journalists at the residence of JUP chief Maulana Shah Owais Noorani in Karachi, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that Imran Khan’s agenda will not be fulfilled, how long will he continue to deceive the people.
He said that instead of holding the elections on time, they can go ahead by a year. They have heard a lot of rumors about breaking the assemblies. There is nothing like that. As many rumors have been raised, is there any action on them?
The PDM president said that the narrative of calling everyone a thief has failed, they will not allow the unity of the country to be divided, for the first time in the history of seventy-five years, an attempt was made to divide the defense agencies. Everyone has the right to disagree, but no one has the right to conspiracy. The country was close to bankruptcy, we will bring it back.
Fazlur Rehman said that the Constitution of Pakistan is a sacred document which has the status of the Mishaq Milli, the basic structure of this constitution consists of 4 things: Islam, democracy, federal system and parliamentary democracy. The presidential system was prevalent in the country till 1973. During the rule of Ayub Khan, there was a movement across the country, after which the parliamentary system came.
He said that the constitution was passed during Bhutto’s regime, the title of consensus constitution is still there, there are talks of trying the failed method again. These things are being said by a person who has no political maturity and he is teaching us politics.
Fazlur Rehman made it clear that there will be no compromise on the parliamentary style of government, while any undemocratic plan of Imran Khan, including the presidential system, will not be allowed to succeed.
