ISLAMABAD: The federal government is determined to protect the rights of domestic workers.
Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar said this while addressing a consultative conference regarding the drafting of the ICT Domestic Workers Act 2022.
While lauding the services of domestic workers, the minister said they were also an important segment of the society and protection of their rights should be the responsibility of the government.
He said serious consultation would help in comprehensive legislation for the protection of domestic workers’ rights.
According to the national news agency, Senator Tarar said there were millions of domestic workers but there was no legal protection for their rights. It is an industry and it’s a weak section that provides services to other sections of society, he said.
On the occasion, Senator Tarar presented written suggestions for drafting the ICT Workers Act 2022.
Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Mehnaz Akbar Aziz gave the opening remarks and explained the aims and objectives of the consultative conference.
