HWPL Launches Metaverse Peace Education Program for Youth in Conflict Regions

Virtual platform connects students from Iraq, Ethiopia, Georgia, Lebanon, and Qatar to learn empathy and cooperation

Seoul: Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace NGO under the UN ECOSOC, has launched a metaverse-based peace education program aimed at empowering youth from conflict-affected regions through interactive learning and dialogue.

Participants joined from Iraq, Ethiopia, Georgia, Lebanon, and Qatar, countries that continue to face challenges of ethnic conflict, political instability, and social division. Under the theme “Consideration,” the program encouraged students to explore empathy and cooperation as key foundations for building peace in their communities.

Hosted on a metaverse platform, the program combined immersive virtual spaces with HWPL’s official peace education curriculum. Students toured the HWPL Exhibition Hall, joined small-group discussions, and participated in the DPCW Peace Quiz, inspired by the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).

Participants, represented by custom avatars, shared perspectives on coexistence and diversity—showcasing how technology can turn peace education into a global, participatory experience.

Dr. Musli Irwani, Professor at the American University of Iraq–Baghdad, said,
“For many students, peace has been an abstract concept. Experiencing HWPL’s peace education in a virtual, collaborative space helps them realize that empathy and mutual understanding are practical skills for rebuilding trust in divided societies.”

He added that such initiatives “bridge the gap between nations that have endured conflict by proving that peace education can be both inclusive and innovative, even across distances.”

HWPL plans to expand its metaverse peace education model through MOUs with schools in Iraq, Lebanon, and North East Africa, along with multilingual virtual courses and quarterly “Peace Learning Summits” to encourage youth-led peace initiatives in the digital space.
