IHC declares Shehryar Afridi’s arrest illegal

In a major relief, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shehryar Afridi and his wife as “unlawful and void”.

Islamabad High Court Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued a written decision on the petition of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi and his brother Jamal Afridi.

In the verdict, the arrest of Shehryar Afridi and his wife by Margalla police station was declared illegal.

In the written decision, Shahryar Afridi has been ordered to appear in the relevant court in criminal cases, while the court has also indicated to start proceedings for contempt of court if Shahryar Afridi is not produced by June 7.

In the judgment, the court said that a separate petition can be filed regarding the change in the jail class. Apparently there was abuse of authority by the District Magistrate and the In-charge of Margalla Police Station.
