Indonesian defence minister meets army chief, discusses expanding military cooperation

Regional security, training and defence industry collaboration reviewed at GHQ

RAWALPINDI: Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, where the two sides discussed regional and global security dynamics and ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, with both sides underscoring the importance of strengthening institutional linkages, expanding training collaboration and promoting defence industrial cooperation between Pakistan and Indonesia.

The visiting dignitary lauded the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. He also expressed Indonesia’s desire to further broaden defence ties with Pakistan across multiple domains.

The army chief reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering a strong and enduring defence relationship with Indonesia, based on shared values, mutual respect and convergence of strategic interests.
