Lahore: Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector of the national cricket team, has announced his resignation from the prominent position. This decision follows a cloud of controversy surrounding allegations against him.
In a statement addressing his resignation, Inzamam-ul-Haq voiced his concerns about the prevalence of unfounded allegations in the cricketing world. He emphasized the importance of conducting thorough investigations before making accusations. Inzamam stated, “If there are any questions about me, it’s better to step aside.” He also expressed his readiness to cooperate with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for any inquiries and provide evidence to support his statement.
In an effort to clear his name, Inzamam-ul-Haq revealed that he had recommended to the PCB that they conduct an inquiry into the allegations. He categorically denied any involvement with a player’s agent company in the UK and considered such claims as baseless.
In response to the allegations against him, Inzamam-ul-Haq had a conversation with the PCB, during which he suggested an inquiry into the matter. Subsequently, he was informed that a committee comprising five individuals, including members from the anti-corruption unit and PCB officials, had been formed to investigate the allegations. In light of this ongoing inquiry, Inzamam decided to resign from his position until the committee completes its investigation.
He concluded by expressing his willingness to engage in further discussions with the PCB once the situation becomes clearer.
It’s noteworthy that Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation coincided with a challenging period for the national cricket team, who were in India for the World Cup and had experienced a series of consecutive losses in the tournament.
Meanwhile, PCB Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf clarified that he was not present in the office at the time of Inzamam-ul-Haq’s announcement. He extended his support to Inzamam, referring to him as a cricketing hero, and stated that a five-member committee, including members from the anti-corruption unit and PCB officials, had been established to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
