Islamabad: In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at enhancing border security, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has joined hands with the European Union (EU) and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) to inaugurate a cutting-edge ‘second line’ border control office at Islamabad International Airport.
The inauguration ceremony, presided over by Director General (DG) FIA, Mohsin Hassan Butt, took place at the FIA Academy in Islamabad, symbolizing a significant step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen its border management.
This state-of-the-art facility, developed in collaboration with the European Union and ICMPD, is equipped with advanced forensic and IT tools specifically designed to identify and combat irregular migration, smuggling, and human trafficking activities that may be detected at the airport.
Among its advanced features, the new border control office has the capacity to access real-time information on the latest trends in document forgeries from international databases. This technological enhancement empowers the FIA to be more proactive in ensuring stringent border control, reinforcing the security of Pakistan’s borders.
The unveiling of this initiative is a key part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to modernize its border management systems, aligning with global best practices and security standards.
As part of this comprehensive plan, similar state-of-the-art border control offices are slated for establishment at other airports across the country in 2024. This expansion is poised to further solidify Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its borders, contributing to regional and international efforts in tackling illicit activities that threaten border integrity.
The collaboration between the FIA, the European Union, and ICMPD represents a proactive step towards safeguarding Pakistan’s borders and strengthening its global partnerships in the fight against irregular migration and related security challenges.
