Jemima Khan denies allegation of financing pro-PTI vloggers

Islamabad: Jemima Khan, the former wife of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, has firmly refuted allegations made by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. Zardari claimed in a recent interview with a private news channel that Jemima was financing vloggers to garner support for her former husband and his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Responding to the accusations on X (formerly Twitter), Jemima Khan stated, “This is obviously not true.” She reiterated her commitment to only wishing for “peace & prosperity in Pakistan.”

Zardari, during the interview, expressed concerns about PTI potentially returning to parliament with a two-thirds majority. He asserted that vloggers settled abroad were claiming that Jemima was providing financial support to them. Zardari alleged the existence of a lobby with different intentions supporting and financing these vloggers, suggesting a conspiracy to bring Imran Khan into power and extend his rule until 2035.

Describing the lobby as having “multiple interests,” Zardari insisted that it was actively funding and backing vloggers. He further contended that Imran Khan, as the former PTI chairman, was not supportive of parliamentary democracy and preferred a presidential democracy, characterizing it as a “cult democracy.”

Amidst the controversy, PTI supporters have rallied behind Jemima on X, with the hashtag #StayStrong Jemima Khan trending on the platform. The situation continues to unfold as both sides present their perspectives on the alleged involvement of foreign funding in political campaigns.
