‘Joyland’ declares as best film of 2023

London: The British newspaper Guardian has named Pakistani film Joyland as the best film of 2023.

Ali Junejo and Aleena Khan play the lead roles in Saim Sadiq’s transgender-themed film.

The Guardian described ‘Joyland’ as a subtle trans drama that explores a widow’s sexual identity and social issues.

‘Joyland’ was sent to the Oscars by Pakistan and was also shortlisted but could not win the Oscar.

It should be noted that the film faced a lot of problems regarding its release in Pakistan and was termed as a propaganda film by many quarters.
