Kamala Harris expands lead over Trump with boost from Women

In a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris leads former President Donald Trump 45% to 41%, marking a shift in the U.S. presidential race ahead of the November 5 election. The 4-point lead among registered voters reflects increased enthusiasm for Harris, especially among women and Hispanic voters.

The poll, conducted over eight days with a 2% margin of error, shows Harris with a 13-point advantage among women and Hispanic voters. Comparatively, her July lead was smaller—nine points among women and six points among Hispanics. Trump’s support remains strong among white voters and men, though his lead among voters without a college degree shrank from 14 points in July to seven points in this latest survey.

The findings highlight a dynamic shift in the race since President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the campaign on July 21. Following Biden’s departure, Harris has gained ground against Trump in national and swing-state polls. However, with the U.S. electoral system determined by the Electoral College, the outcome in key battleground states will be crucial.

Republican strategist Matt Wolking noted that while Harris’ rising support presents a challenge for Trump, it is not an insurmountable obstacle. Trump’s campaign focus moving forward will be crucial to maintaining his voter base.

Additionally, 73% of Democratic voters expressed increased enthusiasm about voting after Harris entered the race, reflecting the excitement sparked by her nomination at the Democratic National Convention.

As the election approaches, the Harris-Trump face-off continues to evolve, with both candidates vying to solidify their positions in the final stretch.
