Karachi Police Form Committee to Investigate Child’s Death in Manhole Incident

Authorities visit bereaved family as public outrage grows over recurring manhole safety issues.

ISLAMABAD — A four-member committee has been formed under the leadership of the Karachi Police Chief to investigate the tragic death of a child who fell into a manhole on Wednesday night.

The committee includes Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation Central. The team visited the bereaved family and held discussions with the relatives regarding the circumstances of the incident.

Police officials also discussed the possibility of registering a case, though the family has not yet indicated whether they intend to file a formal complaint. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and that legal action will be taken against those found responsible.

The incident comes just days after members of the Sindh Provincial Assembly raised concerns over another tragic case involving a child who lost their life in a similar accident. The recurring manhole maintenance issues in Karachi have sparked widespread public outrage, with citizens criticizing authorities for failing to address the safety hazards effectively.
