Karachi Police Forms Special Team to Investigate Child Kidnapping Cases

Karachi: In response to the recent kidnapping of three children that has sparked widespread concern, the Karachi police on Friday constituted a special investigative team under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Muqaddas Haider to trace and apprehend the gangs involved in such crimes.

A notification issued by Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho stated that a team under the supervision of DIG CIA Karachi, Muqaddas Haider, has been formed to investigate child kidnappings. The team includes SSP South Mahzoor Ali, SSP Investigation West Arab Mahar, SSP Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) Anil Haider, and SSP Investigation Korangi Qais Khan.

The police authorities have instructed the team to make targeted efforts in identifying and capturing those responsible for these crimes. The investigative team has been directed to interrogate suspects arrested in FIR No 41/2025 (u/s 364-A/511/34 PPC) of PS Peerabad and FIR No 34/2025 (u/s 364-A PPC) of PS Saudabad. Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho has mandated that the committee chairman submit a progress report by February 3, 2025.

The formation of the committee follows a series of child abductions in Karachi within a single week, prompting Sindh Chief Minister to order police to take immediate measures for the children’s recovery.

Seven-year-old Mohammed Sarim was abducted on January 7 from North Karachi Sector 5. His body was later found in an underground water tank of his apartment building. A postmortem confirmed that Sarim was raped and then strangled to death.

In another incident, five-year-old Aliyan and six-year-old Ali Raza were abducted while playing outside their homes in the Garden locality. Aliyan’s mother, Zainab, lodged an FIR after discovering her son was missing upon returning home from work. CCTV footage revealed that two suspects, a man and a woman, took the children towards Lyari on a motorcycle. However, poor video quality has hindered their identification.

A separate five-member committee led by SSP City Arif Aziz has been assigned to expedite the investigation. Measures taken include geofencing the suspected areas and conducting multiple search operations in Garden and Lyari. Despite these efforts, no significant breakthroughs have been reported yet.

The Karachi police continue efforts to track down the culprits and ensure justice for the victims and their families. Further updates are expected as the investigations progress.
