Islamabad: A relentless cold weather in Pakistan, widespread chilly temperatures and lingering fog blanket most regions, creating a bone-chilling atmosphere. Karachi, the bustling metropolis, recently experienced its coldest night of the winter season, with temperatures plummeting by two points.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported a minimum temperature of 10 degrees Celsius in Karachi, and unfortunately, the forecast brings no relief as there are no indications of rain in the near future. Gentle northeast winds, with a speed of two kilometers per hour, contribute to the chilly weather in the city.
Looking ahead, Karachi residents can brace themselves for even colder days, with the mercury expected to dip into the single digits, according to the Met Office.
Heading towards Balochistan, the Meteorological Department predicts cold and dry conditions in most districts. Kalat recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4 degrees Celsius, while Sibi, Nokundi, and Turbat reported temperatures of 8, 6, and 12 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Director General of the Meteorological Department, Mehr Sahibzada Khan, anticipates a change in the weather in Pakistan during coming weeks. He announced the possibility of rains in the last week of January, extending into February, including expectations of rains and snow during the upcoming elections.
Highlighting the unusual weather patterns, DG Meteorological Department mentioned that the year 2023 was the hottest globally, and December marked the driest spell in 22 years. He emphasized that the current cold wave is likely to persist for some time.
In other major cities this morning, temperatures recorded were Islamabad and Peshawar at 1 degree Celsius, Lahore at 5 degrees Celsius, Quetta at -2 degrees Celsius, Gilgit at -4 degrees Celsius, Murree at 1 degree Celsius, and Muzaffarabad at 3 degrees Celsius.
