KP CM Afridi announces sit-in near Adiala over Imran Khan jail visit denial

RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on Wednesday announced a sit-in near Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail after he was again denied permission to meet former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

“We will stage a sit-in tonight. MNAs and MPAs of our party are arriving,” Afridi told the media, emphasizing that the matter concerns the party leader directly and “we will not let it go like this.”

Afridi demanded that the family members and personal physician of the PTI founder be allowed to meet him, citing the party’s concerns over his health.

The announcement follows reports that Imran Khan was briefly admitted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) last Saturday. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that eye specialists examined the former premier at Adiala Jail and recommended further assessment at PIMS. Following the procedure, Khan was returned to the jail with medical instructions.

“He is absolutely healthy,” Tarar stated, stressing that all prisoners have access to medical facilities and specialist care as required, in line with jail regulations.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said a petition has been filed in the trial court seeking permission to meet the party founder. He expressed concern over conflicting reports about Khan’s health, noting that Dr. Asim had examined him in jail a year ago and found no eye-related issues.

The sit-in is expected to draw party lawmakers and supporters, highlighting the ongoing tensions over access to the jailed former prime minister.
