KP Govt Imposes Section 144 in Kurram

Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has imposed Section 144 in Kurram district after an attack on Deputy Commissioner Javaidullah Mehsud and others. The incident occurred on Saturday when a convoy transporting aid to Parachinar was ambushed in Bagan.

Deputy Commissioner Mehsud and seven others were injured when 40 to 50 armed miscreants attacked the convoy. The group was negotiating the reopening of a road to Parachinar as part of a recently signed peace agreement between rival parties.

The convoy, carrying 75 trucks loaded with essential supplies such as medicines, food, and vegetables, was meant to reach Kurram under the terms of this peace agreement.

In response to the attack, the KP government announced a crackdown on those responsible for disrupting peace. Section 144, which bans gatherings, processions, and the display of weapons, was enforced in the region.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired a four-hour meeting in Kohat, attended by senior military officials, the KP chief secretary, the police chief, and others. The meeting resolved to take strict action against the perpetrators of the attack and to restore law and order in Kurram.

A targeted operation against the troublemakers was approved during the meeting. Officials emphasized that the peace of Kurram would not be compromised by a few miscreants and assured the public that normalcy would soon return, with all key routes, including the Chinar Road, being reopened to traffic.

A notification issued by the additional chief secretary confirmed the imposition of Section 144 in Kurram district. It specified that all forms of gatherings and processions on the main highway from Teri to Chhapri were banned, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
