Islamabad: Letters have been sent to the provincial governors for the date of general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Leading News, the Election Commission has proposed the dates of April 9 to 13 for the general elections of the Punjab Assembly and April 15 to 17 for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
In the letter written by the Election Commission, it has been said that the Governor should finalize the date between April 15 and 17 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and inform the authorities. Similarly, the Election Commission is bound to conduct elections in Punjab before April 13.
The letter further states that it is the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold general elections within 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies.
Earlier, an important meeting was called on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja on the issue of general elections and by-elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which the dates were announced.
During the election, 53,000 polling stations will be established in Punjab and 17,000 in KP where up to 7 lac polling staff will be required. Army and Rangers will also be deployed.
Estimates of expenses in general and by-elections have also been made, however, expenses of around 15 billion rupees will be incurred on both provinces and by-elections.
