London: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s family members residing in London have been alerted by local police about a serious threat of violent attack from unidentified individuals, trusted sources revealed. The warning is based on intelligence reports shared by the West Midlands Police.
According to security sources, the West Midlands Police notified the London Metropolitan Police about the potential threat. In response, detectives from Scotland Yard visited the Sharif family’s Avenfield apartments to inform them of the heightened threat level and to provide safety guidelines. The sources disclosed that the police urged the family members to remain vigilant and exercise caution in their daily movements.
While the origin and details of the threat remain undisclosed, it is understood that the alert was triggered by intelligence gathered through monitoring systems. “The threat intelligence was cited as originating from the West Midlands Police,” a source added. Scotland Yard assured the family that necessary measures have been implemented to counter the potential threat.
Two weeks earlier, activist Gulfam Hussain was arrested by Scotland Yard near the Avenfield flats following a complaint by Khurram Butt, a UK-based leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Youth Wing. Gulfam was accused of making threats against the Sharif family. Although he is now on bail, he has been barred from approaching the Avenfield property.
Sources revealed that the West Midlands Police acted after a Birmingham-based group of TikTok users issued violent threats during live broadcasts. Hussain’s arrest is reportedly connected to the same intelligence alert, as he was found near the apartments. However, he denies issuing any threats, and the investigation continues with police reviewing video evidence.
Most members of the Sharif family have already relocated to Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif, who spent nearly three years in self-imposed exile, returned to Pakistan in November 2023. His son, Hasan Nawaz, now resides in Lahore, where he assists his father, while Hussain Nawaz lives primarily in Saudi Arabia, though his wife and children remain in London.
Ali Dar, Nawaz’s son-in-law, and his wife moved back to Lahore around eight months ago. Their daughter, who is married to Ali Dar, also resides in Lahore. Last month, Nawaz’s grandson, Zayd Hussain, son of Hussain Nawaz, celebrated his wedding in Lahore.
The Sharif family has yet to comment on the threat or respond to inquiries regarding the matter.
