RAWALPINDI: Maryam Nawaz, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior vice president and chief organiser, on Wednesday expressed her displeasure over Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial’s remarks regarding the parliamentarians.
During the Supreme Court’s hearing in the Punjab election delay case, the verdict of which was announced on Tuesday, the CJP had said: “Today, when you go to parliament, you find people […] who were, until yesterday, in captivity, imprisoned, declared traitors. They are now talking over there, and being respected because they are representatives of the people.”
While addressing a lawyers’ convention, Maryam criticised CJP Bandial for his remarks, saying, “When the parliamentarians were talking about law and constitution, you [CJP] taunted them. Do you know how prideful it is to go to jail for a doctrine?”
Regarding the chief justice of Pakistan getting emotional during the proceedings of the election delay case, the PML-N leader said she spent five months in Adiala Jail but the CJP did not get emotional at that time.
Maryam alleged that former director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence General (retd) Faiz Hameed was the biggest facilitator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and that his remnants were still facilitating the PTI chief.
