Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi Accused of Misconduct by SJC

The Supreme Judicial Council has issued a damning verdict against former Supreme Court judge Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi, accusing him of knowingly depriving underage children of property in the Chaudhry Shehbaz case.

The Council’s opinion, based on thorough investigations, reveals that Mazhar Ali Akbar Naqvi faced a total of five allegations of misconduct, proving his inability to remain free from greed. It further highlighted that his conduct, both official and personal, during his tenure, was deemed inappropriate, in clear violation of the judicial conduct code.

Specifically pointing out his actions in the Chaudhry Shehbaz case, the Council stated that Mazhar Naqvi’s decisions were motivated by personal interest, leading to the deliberate deprivation of underage children of valuable property for his own gain.

Furthermore, the Council shed light on Mazhar Naqvi’s acceptance of valuable gifts during his tenure, including an undisclosed sum of Rs5 million, and the acquisition of commercial and residential plots by his sons at nominal prices, without satisfactory explanation.

Expressing grave concern over the multiple breaches of conduct, the Council emphasized that such actions have tarnished the reputation of the judiciary. Consequently, it recommended the termination of Mazhar Naqvi from his service, asserting that the title ‘judge’ should no longer be associated with him.

In response to the proceedings initiated by the Supreme Judicial Council, Mazhar Naqvi opted to resign from his position. This decision comes amidst mounting pressure and the serious allegations leveled against him.
