Islamabad: The Ministry of Religious Affairs is contemplating extending the deadline for hajj applications under the sponsorship scheme by a week. This move comes as only 3,161 applications have been received so far, falling significantly short of the allocated quota of 25,000.
The sponsorship scheme, designed to facilitate hajj aspirants, allows for the deposit of hajj dues in US dollars and grants an exemption from balloting. Despite its attractive features, the response has been unexpectedly low, with the goal of receiving 21,839 applications still far from being achieved.
However, it’s important to note that there is no expected extension for applications under the regular scheme, as it has already surpassed the allocated quota. More than 63,000 applications have flooded in, leaving just one day remaining for submissions. The regular government hajj scheme follows a balloting process to select successful pilgrims, adding an element of anticipation for applicants.

Hajj aspirants are encouraged to seize the opportunity presented by the sponsorship scheme, providing a unique avenue to participate in the sacred ceremony. With the potential extension of the deadline, applicants have an additional week to submit their requests under this special scheme.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs aims to ensure that all deserving individuals have the chance to undertake the hajj pilgrimage, and these recent developments underscore the government’s commitment to accommodating the diverse needs of its citizens during this auspicious time.
