MQM threats to secede govt; PM’s assurance to remove reservations

Karachi: After the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan threatened to secede from the federal government over the issue of constituencies in Karachi, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called the party’s convener and assured to remove all concerns while the MQM late at night. The delegation met Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesuri at the Governor House after which MQM postponed the general workers meeting to be held at KMC Ground PIB Colony today (Saturday).

It should be noted that the MQM Pakistan Coordination Committee had called an emergency meeting on the issue of separation from the federal government, while the federal ministers of MQM have submitted their resignations to Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Sources said that if the government cannot help in constituencies, there is no justification for staying in the government. After which the federal government may be in danger due to the separation of MQM, while MQM had called a general workers’ meeting today to renew important decisions, which was postponed.

It should be noted that regarding the consultation between PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his close associates in Islamabad, it was said that the President may ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take a vote of confidence in the National Assembly.

Given the current political situation, if Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan separates from the federal government, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif may fail to get a vote of confidence.

With Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan considering secession from the federal government on the issue of constituencies in Karachi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui tonight to assure positive progress.

In this regard, sources said that Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui told the Prime Minister that implementation should be done now, there is pressure from the people and workers and they are waiting for your positive response from today.

Apart from this, People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari also called Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and assured to clear the concerns.

The conveyor of MQM-Pakistan took a blunt stand that if we are cheated this time too, then everyone knows what our decision will be. According to the sources, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the implementation of the decisions of the Sindh Cabinet should be ensured.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori also contacted Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui by phone and requested to resolve the issues through understanding and mutual consultation.
