Mustafizur Rahman registers for PSL after IPL release

Bangladesh pacer joins HBL PSL 11 days after being dropped by KKR on BCCI directives

KARACHI: Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has registered for the upcoming Pakistan Super League after being released by Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders on directives issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The announcement was made by the marquee league through its official social media handles, which shared a banner featuring the left-arm pacer. Mustafizur has so far represented Bangladesh in 15 Tests, 116 ODIs and 126 T20Is.

“Batters better shake carefully… it’s going to Fizz in the #NewEra. Mustafizur Rahman joins HBL PSL 11!” the league captioned the post.

The development comes just two days after Rahman was abruptly released by KKR from its squad for the IPL 2026. In a statement, the franchise said it had been instructed by the BCCI, as the regulator of the IPL, to release the Bangladeshi pacer ahead of the upcoming season.

Rahman’s release triggered a strong reaction from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, which on Sunday announced that its national men’s team would not travel to India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns. The board also sought clarification regarding Rahman’s unexpected exclusion from the IPL.

Earlier this week, Bangladesh’s government also announced a ban on the telecast and promotion of the IPL in the country. A statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said no reason had been communicated for Rahman’s exclusion, adding that the decision had caused distress among the people of Bangladesh and was taken in the public interest.
