Peshawar: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued an order to de-freeze properties worth billions of rupees in Donga Gali, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which are owned by former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and his wife, Nusrat Shehbaz.
The NAB Punjab has formally conveyed this decision through a letter to the Abbottabad deputy commissioner, informing them about the de-freezing and detachment of properties.
According to the letter, the NAB initiated an investigation in December 2019 against Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz, Sulaiman Shahbaz, and others in a money laundering case. As a result of this investigation, the assets, including the nine-kanal Nishat Lodge and other properties owned by Shehbaz and his family in Galiyat Donga Gali, were frozen.
However, on July 20, 2023, an accountability court acquitted Shehbaz Sharif and his family members of the charges. In accordance with the court’s acquittal order, the NAB has now decided to de-freeze the properties belonging to the former prime minister and his family.
Additionally, the NAB has instructed the Abbottabad deputy commissioner to provide a comprehensive report on the de-freezing of the properties back to the NAB Punjab.
This development signifies a significant legal outcome in the case, and further actions may ensue as a result. The situation will likely continue to evolve, and more information may be forthcoming in the future.
