NAB summons Gandapur in Al-Qadir trust case

Rawalpindi: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a summons to former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, which revolves around a staggering £190 million scam. The notice, sent through the office of Dera Ismail Khan DPO, has instructed Gandapur to appear before the NAB’s Central Investigation Team on September 13.

According to the notice, during a federal cabinet meeting held on December 3, 2019, former Prime Minister Imran Khan sought approval from the cabinet to allocate £190 million for personal interests instead of depositing it into the national treasury. This allocation was reportedly made through a secret agreement enclosed in a sealed envelope.

As Gandapur was also present at the said cabinet meeting, the notice emphasizes the necessity of his involvement in the investigation to record his statement on this matter.

It’s worth noting that the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accompanied by his wife Bushra Bibi and other party leaders, is already facing a NAB inquiry regarding an agreement between the PTI government and a prominent property tycoon. This agreement is alleged to have resulted in a substantial £190 million loss to the national treasury.

Charges against the former Prime Minister and other individuals involved suggest manipulation of the £190 million, equivalent to Rs50 billion at the time, provided by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government as part of the arrangement with the property tycoon. Additionally, they are accused of receiving undue benefits, including acquiring over 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the establishment of Al-Qadir University.
