Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in electricity prices. During a news conference held alongside Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Friday, Nawaz Sharif revealed that the Punjab government would offer a relief of Rs 14 per unit on electricity bills for up to 500 units consumed during the months of August and September.
Nawaz Sharif explained that the decision was made possible through a careful reduction in government expenditures across various sectors, enabling the allocation of Rs 45 billion towards this relief initiative. This measure is anticipated to alleviate the financial burden on citizens during these challenging months.
“This is not the first time our government has stepped up to support the people,” Nawaz Sharif stated, referencing an earlier initiative by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which provided relief to consumers using up to 200 units of electricity per month.
The PML-N leader emphasized that the Punjab government’s actions reflect the deep concern of his party, the Prime Minister, and the Chief Minister for the well-being of ordinary citizens. He also highlighted another significant project launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, which involves distributing solar panels to those in need. This project, with an estimated budget of Rs 700 billion, aims to provide much-needed comfort to poor, lower-middle, and middle-class families.

Expressing hope that these initiatives will ease the financial strain on the public, Nawaz Sharif praised both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister for their unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. He also urged other provinces to follow Punjab’s lead and implement similar measures to enhance the quality of life for their residents.
Reflecting on the broader economic challenges facing the country, Nawaz Sharif lamented that Pakistan’s progress had been repeatedly hampered by conspiracies against him. He recalled his previous tenure, during which his government successfully managed the economy, reducing interest rates to 5.25% and maintaining a stable dollar rate. He questioned who was responsible for the current economic difficulties, including soaring interest rates and the return of the IMF, pointing to the PTI leadership as a key contributor to the nation’s financial woes.
In his closing remarks, Nawaz Sharif vowed to remain connected with the people and committed to working tirelessly for the betterment of the country. He reiterated his determination to address the challenges facing Pakistan and continue pursuing policies aimed at improving the lives of its citizens.
