Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif departed for Geneva on Wednesday for a four-day trip, where he is expected to join his daughter, Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, who is undergoing medical treatment.
In response to a question by The News regarding his opinion on Donald Trump’s victory in the recent US elections, Nawaz Sharif declined to comment, stating, “I’ll speak on political issues after my return from Geneva.”
The former three-time Prime Minister confirmed his travel plans, noting that he was heading to Geneva specifically to be with Maryam Nawaz, who is expected to arrive in the Swiss city late Wednesday for medical treatment.
While in Geneva, Nawaz and Maryam are likely to remain together for some time before heading back to London. Nawaz Sharif indicated that after his visit to Geneva, he would return to London for a week before eventually heading back to Pakistan. Maryam, however, is not expected to visit London in the near future due to her ongoing duties as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Sources close to the family have also revealed that Maryam has been dealing with a persistent throat infection for some time and may undergo surgery, as advised by her medical team, to address the issue.
