Islamabad: Pakistan’s top military officials on Friday attended an in-camera session of the National Assembly chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in which Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir said that neither new nor old we must only talk about Pakistan.
On his arrival, members of the assembly and federal ministers welcomed the army chief by clapping on desks, while the participants were briefed on the security situation in the country by military officials.
According to details, Army Chief congratulated the members on the completion of 50 years of the implementation of the 1973 Constitution and said that the Center of Gravity is the people of Pakistan.
Sharing his views on the country’s internal matters, COAS said the Pakistani constitution and parliament depict opinion of the masses. Constitution specifies that power should be exercised by the elected representatives of the people.
COAS called people center of gravity, and mentioned that the masses express their views through these institutions, which provide a structure for their participation in governance.
The Army Chief added that this is a campaign based on the already approved and ongoing strategy dialogue and development of the state of Pakistan.
General Asim Munir also added that there is no other option for the terrorists than to accept the writ of the state, the result of talks with the terrorists came in the form of their further grouping, security forces are ready for lasting peace in the country, intelligence-based operations are going on on a daily basis in this regard.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif mentioned that over 80,000 people have rendered their life in the fight against terrorism, and emphasised that peace had been restored in the nation through the tremendous sacrifices of these martyrs.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir while concluding the meeting urged that we should leave the discussion of new and old Pakistan and talk about our Pakistan now, “Pakistan has no shortage of resources and manpower, the elected representatives of the people should determine the destination, Pakistan Army should fully support them in Pakistan’s development and success journey.”
