One killed, nine injured in IED blast targeting cement factory vehicle in Lakki Marwat

Attack comes amid surge in terrorism in KP, a day after four policemen were martyred

LAKKI MARWAT: At least one person was killed and nine others, including two women, were injured on Monday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a vehicle belonging to a cement factory in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said.

The blast occurred on Begukhel Road near Nawarkhel Mor. Police said the deceased was identified as Fareedullah, while the injured included Abdul Malik, Umar Khan, Masal Khan, Mir Ahmad and Syed Jan. All the victims belong to Begukhel village.

Rescue 1122 teams reached the site soon after the explosion and shifted the injured to City Hospital, Lakki. Those in critical condition were later referred to Bannu for further treatment.

The attack comes amid a rise in terrorist incidents in the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the Afghan Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.

The blast occurred a day after four policemen were martyred in separate firing incidents in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts. In Lakki Marwat’s Sarai Naurang city, unidentified motorcycle-riding attackers opened fire on traffic police personnel, killing Traffic Police In-charge Naurang Jalal Khan and Constables Azizullah and Abdullah. The attackers managed to flee the scene.

In a separate incident in Bannu, Constable Rashid Khan was martyred when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in the Mandan area as he was on his way from home to report for duty at Mandan Police Station.

According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) annual security report, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bore the brunt of terrorist violence in 2025, with at least 2,331 people, including civilians and law enforcement personnel, losing their lives.

Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan. The issue has recently led to heightened tensions, including cross-border attacks and retaliatory actions by Pakistani forces.
