Pakistan Bans New Year Celebrations in Solidarity with Palestine

Islamabad: The Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar declared a complete ban on all New Year celebrations in Pakistan, citing the shocking situation in Palestine. The decision aims to express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians, particularly in the wake of the ongoing genocide and tragic incidents in Gaza and the West Bank.

In a special televised message, Prime Minister Kakar urged the general public to exhibit unity and simplicity as they welcome the New Year. He emphasized that the entire Pakistani nation and the Muslim Ummah shared profound sorrow over the relentless persecution of Palestinians, highlighting the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives, including approximately 9,000 children, in the atrocities committed by the brutal Israeli forces.

Since October 7, 2023, more than 21,000 innocent Palestinians have fallen victim to the Israeli forces, prompting Pakistan to consistently raise its voice for the oppressed at international forums. Prime Minister Kakar assured that Pakistan would continue advocating for the rights of Palestinians in the future.

Highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to humanitarian aid, Kakar mentioned the dispatch of two relief consignments to Palestine, with a third one underway. The government is actively coordinating with Egypt and Jordan to ensure timely relief and facilitate the evacuation and treatment of the injured from Gaza.

As the ban on New Year celebrations takes effect, Prime Minister Kakar expressed hope that the incoming year would bring a message of peace, prosperity, and harmony not only to Pakistan but to the entire world. The decision reflects the nation’s deep concern for the plight of Palestinians and the commitment to stand in solidarity with the oppressed during these challenging times.
