‘Pakistan Can Beat Anyone’, says Bangladesh Head Coach

Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has cautioned against underestimating Pakistan, describing them as a “dangerous side” capable of beating any team, regardless of recent form.

Speaking to the media in Lahore ahead of the three-match T20I series, Simmons said his squad remains confident and motivated despite the absence of several senior players, including key pacer Mustafizur Rahman.

“This is a good opportunity for us to play competitive cricket,” Simmons stated. “Pakistan is a dangerous side, and we are not going to take them lightly.”

Addressing Pakistan’s recent inconsistency, the former West Indies cricketer said, “Everyone is saying Pakistan hasn’t been playing well, but Pakistan is still Pakistan — they have the ability to beat anyone.”

Bangladesh Head Coach Simmons highlighted that some Bangladeshi players had featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and have shared valuable insights about local playing conditions, which could help them adapt better during the series.

With key players missing from the lineup, Simmons sees this as a chance for younger players to shine.

“When senior players are unavailable, it creates opportunities for youngsters. Often, one of them turns out to be a great find,” he said, expressing optimism about the emerging talent in the squad.

While acknowledging the absence of Mustafizur Rahman, Simmons remained upbeat: “We will miss our key players, but we are determined to put up a strong performance with the current squad.”

He also welcomed the inclusion of former Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait in the coaching setup, calling it a valuable addition to the team’s development.

Reflecting on his own playing days, Simmons shared, “I have great memories of playing in Pakistan — it’s always been a special place for me.”

The Bangladesh national team continued its preparations at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, with intense batting, bowling, and fielding sessions led by the coaching staff. Players involved in the PSL 10 final were given a rest day.
