Pakistan Elected Regional Director of WAIPA for South Asia

Appointment at World Investment Conference 2025 strengthens Pakistan’s global investment role

ISLAMABAD: The Board of Investment (BOI) Pakistan has been elected as the Regional Director of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) for the South Asian region during the WAIPA General Assembly and Steering Committee elections held at the 29th World Investment Conference 2025 in Sharjah, UAE.

Federal Minister for Investment and BOI, Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh, represented Pakistan at the General Assembly, reaffirming the country’s commitment to advancing collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing among global investment promotion agencies. He emphasized Pakistan’s vision to promote sustainable investment and economic diversification.

The World Investment Conference 2025, organized by WAIPA and the UAE Ministry of Investment, has brought together leaders from 140 countries to shape the future of global investment promotion amid digital and economic transformation.

Pakistan’s new regional leadership role will strengthen its investment promotion efforts and foster collaboration with other member countries to enhance foreign direct investment (FDI) in the region.

Shaikh said Pakistan, as a WAIPA member, will gain access to international best practices, research resources, and opportunities for cooperation with other Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) to improve facilitation and investor confidence.

On the sidelines of the conference, Trade and Investment Counsellor at the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai, Ali Zeb Khan, arranged bilateral meetings between the minister and key UAE stakeholders, including the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), and the Pakistan Business Council Sharjah, to explore avenues for deeper economic cooperation and FDI inflows into Pakistan.

The event was inaugurated by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, in the presence of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Shurooq, alongside Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, and senior officials of the UAE Ministry of Investment.
