Pakistan formed to have institutions such as GIKI: PM

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday emphasised that focusing on science and technology was important to achieve goals of fast development in the country. He was speaking at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences (GIKI) in the Topi area of Swabi.

The prime minister said the institute was playing a vital role in the promotion of science and technology as it was preparing high-quality graduates in a range of fields of engineering sciences.

The prime minister recalled that when he visited GIKI for the first time in 1990s, he was much impressed by not only the infrastructure of the institute but also the quality of education and energy of students, the official news agency reported.

He said Allah Almighty created human beings for a noble cause. The ability to think, the ability to conceptualise things, and seeking knowledge makes the human being different from the angels, he added.

The prime minister said Pakistan was formed to have prestigious educational institutions such as GIKI.

He also stressed the need to establish replicas of this institute in other parts of the country. He said he would try his best to establish GIKI campuses in all provinces of the country.

Prime Minister Kakar also commended the great work done by the GIKI faculty of the institute. He assured that the government would provide all-out support to the institute in any of its initiatives.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Kakar termed skilled human resource the most important asset for a nation and said that effective training strategy for youth was crucial to meet the needs of the contemporary world.

Addressing the launching ceremony of PM’s Youth Skill Development Programme, he said in the era of technology and artificial-intelligence, there was a need to equip the youth with necessary up-to-date knowledge.

PM Kakar said imparting skills to one person did not restrict to just him but the families associated with him and also the coming generations benefit from it. He said the country was in dire need of such initiatives of social development which resulted in the overall uplift of the people.
