Pakistan Navy launches fourth Hangor-class submarine GHAZI in China

All four submarines under construction in China enter sea trials phase

RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Navy has launched its fourth Hangor-class submarine, named GHAZI, at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China, marking another major milestone in the navy’s modernisation programme, the Inter-Services Public Relations said on Tuesday.

With the launch of GHAZI, all four Hangor-class submarines being constructed in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials and are in the final stages of delivery to Pakistan.

According to ISPR, Pakistan and China had signed an agreement for the acquisition of eight Hangor-class submarines. Under the deal, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four will be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited under a transfer of technology arrangement.

The Hangor-class submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, enabling them to engage targets at standoff ranges. ISPR said the induction of these submarines will play a key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Senior officials from Pakistan and China attended the launching ceremony, reflecting the deepening defence cooperation and longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
