Pakistan-Türkiye Leaders Review Strategic Ties, Call for Gaza Ceasefire

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Sunday reaffirmed their strong commitment to deepening the multifaceted cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye, during a warm and cordial meeting held in Ankara.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and a high-level delegation, is on a two-day official visit to Türkiye. The visit highlights the enduring strategic partnership and historical brotherhood between the two nations.

Both leaders conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and reiterated their resolve to elevate the strategic partnership across multiple domains. Emphasis was placed on enhancing economic collaboration, with key focus areas including renewable energy, information technology, defence production, infrastructure development, and agriculture. The two sides reaffirmed their goal of achieving $5 billion in annual bilateral trade, in line with the decisions made during the 7th High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) held in Islamabad earlier this year.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed profound gratitude for Türkiye’s unwavering support during recent regional developments, highlighting the unbreakable fraternal bond between the two nations. He praised the principled stance and solidarity shown by the Turkish government and people, calling it a source of great strength for Pakistan.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the role of Pakistan’s Armed Forces and the nation’s resilience in achieving significant victories during recent national defence operations, including Marak-e-Haq and Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

In addition to bilateral matters, the two leaders discussed key regional and global developments, including the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They jointly called for an immediate ceasefire and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.

The Pakistani delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi, and Ambassador Dr. Yusuf Junaid. President Erdoğan hosted a state dinner in honour of the visiting dignitaries.
