Pakistan’s Sinan wins gold in Canadian Taekwondo Championship

TORONTO: Pakistani athlete Sinan Ashfaq Ahmed bagged another gold medal in the BBW Canadian Taekwondo Championship in Toronto.

Sinan comfortably beat Ma Fazhija from Master Myung’s Taekwondo Martial Arts Club in two straight rounds in the semi-final in the under 80kg weight category while he outplayed Yimtatu Noah from Master Kang’s Black Belt Martial Arts Club in the final.

The event was held at the famous Markhan Pan AM Centre.

Sinan, who studies at Humber College, plays for Black Belt World – Toronto’s most prestigious taekwondo centre run by Grandmaster Tommy Chang.

Sinan, who was born and brought up in the UAE, represents Pakistan in international events and also plays for Sharjah Sport Club. He has won numerous national and international taekwondo competitions in the last seven years.

His last big win was a gold medal in the prestigious Albania Open Taekwondo G-2 Championship. He also beat an Australian player in the Canadian Open Taekwondo Championship earlier this year.

Sinan, 18, is a 3rd Dan Black Belt and has already left a huge mark in the sport. He has entered more than 25 competitions including 12 international tournaments.

He has so far won a total of 10 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals – both at international and national levels.

In August 2022, Sinan represented Pakistan in the Junior Taekwondo World Championship in Bulgaria and performed well.

Sinan said he is very proud to represent Pakistan. “It’s amazing, really. I hope I will make my country and people proud.”

He also thanked his coaches at the Black Belt World in Toronto for their support and training. Sinan said he is determined to represent Pakistan in international events in the coming years.
