Paris Olympics: Arshad Nadeem secures spot in javelin throw final

Paris, Pakistan’s star javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, has advanced to the finals of the Javelin Throw event at the Paris Olympics. On Tuesday, Nadeem delivered an impressive throw of 86.59 meters in the qualification round, surpassing the 84-meter minimum qualifying mark and securing his place in the medal contention.

Nadeem’s exceptional first attempt ensured his spot in the final and highlighted his extraordinary skill. With this achievement, he continues to be Pakistan’s brightest hope for a medal, especially as the country’s contingent of seven athletes has seen six others exit their respective events.

This will be Nadeem’s second consecutive appearance in an Olympic final, following his commendable fifth-place finish at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The final round of the Javelin Throw event is scheduled for Thursday, August 8, at 11:25 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST).

  • Olivier Helander (Finland) — 83.81m
  • Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago) — 83.02m
  • Lassi Etelatalo (Finland) — 82.91m

Athletes who met or exceeded the 84-meter mark have secured their places in the final round, where they will compete for medals.

Arshad Nadeem’s remarkable career includes a silver medal at the World Championships last year and a historic gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. In the latter, he became the first Pakistani athlete since 1962 to claim gold, with a throw of 90.18 meters.
