Sahiwal: Tragic news emerged on Saturday as it was reported that an incarcerated individual, previously convicted for attempting to assassinate former President General Pervez Musharraf, has passed away in Sahiwal Jail.
Following this unfortunate incident, the Sahiwal District Sessions Judge swiftly ordered a judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of the prisoner, identified as Karam Din. To ensure a thorough investigation, a Judicial Magistrate has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer, tasked with probing the details of this incident that occurred within the confines of the jail.
Karam Din, a 50-year-old resident of Sadiqabad, had been serving a life sentence imposed by an Anti-Terrorism Court for his involvement in the assassination attempt on General Pervez Musharraf. Remarkably, he had spent the last 18 years behind bars, a significant portion of his life dedicated to his sentence. Throughout his incarceration, he was held in a high-security zone within the prison.
The sequence of events leading to this unfortunate incident unfolded on Friday when Karam Din suddenly fell unconscious while in the confines of the prison. Authorities promptly rushed him to the Teaching Hospital in an attempt to secure medical assistance. However, despite their efforts, Karam Din’s life could not be saved, and he passed away at the hospital.
Following his demise, a post-mortem examination was conducted to ascertain the cause of death. Subsequently, the police released his body to his grieving heirs, who then undertook the somber task of transporting him to Sadiqabad for the final rites and burial.
