Abu Dhabi Police and Civil Defence teams were dealing with a light aircraft crash in the parking area of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on Wednesday evening.
The pilot suffered minor injuries and was receiving treatment, Abu Dhabi Police tweeted. No other casualties were reported.
The plane was heading in to land at the Al Bateen Executive Airport, news agency Wam said.
Initial investigations by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) showed the Cessna light civil single-engine fixed-wing aircraft crashed due to a technical malfunction.
Teams from the National Search and Rescue Centre and police helped to secure the crash site.
The GCAA said that it will continue to investigate the cause of the accident and authorities urged the public not to spread rumours about the incident.
