Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed to immediately remove the ban imposed on online encyclopedia Wikipedia in Pakistan due to non-removal of insulting and illegal content.
It may be recalled that a few days ago PTA permanently blocked Wikipedia’s services in Pakistan after downgrading it for 48 hours for not removing offensive and illegal content despite warnings.
Wikipedia said in this regard that it is hoped that the government of Pakistan will soon remove the ban and fully support our cause of information for all.
In the announcement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, it is said that on the recommendation of the 3-member ministerial committee, the Prime Minister has directed to restore the service of Wikipedia immediately.
The statement said that the three-member committee consisted of the Minister of Law, the Minister of Economic Affairs and the Minister of Information.
The Prime Minister has also set up a 5-member committee on the issue while directing the immediate removal of the ban on Wikipedia.
