PM Kakar Advocates Accountability for Attacks on Military Installations

Islamabad: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar underscored the importance of holding accountable those involved in attacks on military installations, stating that such actions should not go unpunished. In a recent interview with a private news channel, he referenced the incidents on May 9 and emphasized that individuals attacking institutions responsible for preventing anarchy should face legal consequences.

Regarding the government’s appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision on military trials for civilians, the prime minister justified the stance, stating that those attacking military installations should be tried in military courts. He dismissed allegations of mistreatment of the former prime minister and refuted claims of poisoning the PTI chairman in jail, emphasizing the government’s legal responsibility to provide necessary facilities.

Prime Minister Kakar addressed concerns about political favoritism, asserting that all parties, including PTI and PPP, were actively engaged in their election campaigns across the country. He reassured the public that elections would be transparent and urged anyone questioning the process to consult relevant forums, including the courts.

On the Afghanistan issue, the prime minister highlighted the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) operations from Afghan soil, expressing a commitment to protecting Pakistani citizens. Regarding negotiations with the TTP, he stated that disarmament was a prerequisite for dialogue. He emphasized Pakistan’s historical and cultural ties with Afghanistan while affirming zero tolerance for terrorism.

Addressing the repatriation of Afghan refugees, PM Kakar clarified that only illegally registered Afghans were asked to leave, with the option to return legally. Regarding the Palestine issue, he mentioned unanimous efforts by Muslim leaders to push for a ceasefire and a human corridor in Gaza and the West Bank during a recent OIC meeting.

Discussing the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), PM Kakar highlighted significant achievements during the caretaker period. He noted China’s interest in increased coordination and cooperation and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing maximum benefits from the second phase of the Belt and Road Initiative.

In concluding remarks, the prime minister reassured the firm resolve of the government to curb all forms of violence in the country, emphasizing the security forces’ capacity to handle such challenges.
