Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that no additional burden should be imposed on electricity and gas consumers.
According to Leading News, the Prime Minister chaired a high-level meeting regarding the energy sector. The meeting deliberated on devising a comprehensive strategy to overcome the revolving debt in the electricity and gas sectors.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed to reduce the existing revolving credit in the energy sector. The PML-N government has given practical evidence of complete elimination of revolving credit during its tenure in 2013-18 through better policies.
The Prime Minister vowed that with continued hard work and effective strategy, the problem will still be overcome again, the process of reforms in the energy sector should be completed in such a way that the circular debt will be gradually reduced and eventually eliminated.
He said that the Sui gas distribution companies should immediately improve the bill recovery system, no additional burden should be imposed on the electricity and gas consumers. The Prime Minister also issued instructions to make the system of collection of electricity and gas bills more effective.
Energy saving plan was also reviewed in the meeting. This plan will be presented tomorrow in the federal cabinet meeting in which the provincial chief ministers have also been invited.
The Prime Minister further said that all possible measures should be taken to ensure increase in revenue of the energy sector, for this purpose the transmission system should be improved to prevent theft and wastage of electricity and gas.
