Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s strong commitment to sustainable peace and stability in South Asia, emphasizing the need for de-escalation and dialogue in the region.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), who called on him at the Prime Minister House.
Extending warm greetings to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the prime minister thanked the UAE for its consistent and unwavering support to Pakistan. He highlighted the historic and fraternal ties between the two nations, underpinned by mutual respect and cooperation.
Discussing the recent regional developments, PM Shehbaz underscored Pakistan’s firm stance against terrorism in all its forms, noting the country’s immense sacrifices — including over 90,000 casualties and economic losses exceeding USD 152 billion. He expressed concern that India’s recent actions and aggressive rhetoric were undermining Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts along its western borders.
The prime minister categorically rejected India’s accusations linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident, calling them baseless and unfounded. He emphasized Pakistan’s readiness for a credible, transparent, and internationally monitored investigation into the incident.
Highlighting Pakistan’s efforts to present its position to the international community, PM Shehbaz said his government was committed to safeguarding recent economic gains achieved with the support of friendly countries like the UAE. He made it clear that Pakistan would not take any step that could jeopardize regional peace and stability.
In this context, he urged brotherly countries, including the UAE, to use their influence to encourage India to de-escalate tensions and engage in constructive dialogue.
Ambassador Al-Zaabi appreciated Pakistan’s clear stance and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to working closely with Islamabad to ensure regional peace and security.
