Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, scheduled from September 23 to September 27, 2024. He will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, along with senior government officials, as announced by Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch during her weekly press briefing on Thursday.

During his address at the UNGA, PM Shehbaz Sharif will reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and express strong support for the United Nations’ efforts in fostering global peace, security, and prosperity. He will also highlight key international issues, including the long-standing questions of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, which remain critical items on the UN Security Council’s agenda.

In addition to delivering his speech, the prime minister will attend several high-profile meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA, including discussions on existential threats posed by rising sea levels and the UN Security Council’s open debate on leadership for peace.
