PMD dismisses rumors of snowfall in Punjab

Islamabad: In response to widespread speculations circulating on social media about anticipated snowfall in Punjab, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a statement categorically dismissing the rumors as baseless. The department urged the public to ignore fake news and emphasized that stable weather conditions are expected in most parts of the country.

The PMD clarified that due to the prevailing stable weather patterns, cold and dry weather is anticipated in various regions, with particularly very cold conditions forecasted for the plains of Punjab in the upcoming week. Dense fog is also likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh intermittently. Additionally, frost is expected in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region including Islamabad, and Kashmir.

Addressing specific concerns, the met department outlined that light rain, accompanied by light snowfall over the mountains, is expected in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan on January 13, 16, and 17.

While cautioning against water stress conditions in rainfed areas, the PMD advised the public to use water judiciously. It further highlighted that due to foggy conditions in plain areas, day temperatures might remain 4 to 6 ℃ below normal. Farmers were specifically advised to manage their crops and ensure the well-being of their livestock in warm places given the prevailing cold weather conditions. Travelers were also cautioned to exercise extra care during foggy days.

After the rumors on social media about snowfall in Punjab, this official clarification from the Pakistan Meteorological Department aims to dispel misinformation, providing the public with accurate and reliable information about the expected weather conditions in the coming days.
