Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial to investigate the Long March shooting of Imran Khan.
The Prime Minister has said in his letter that a commission should be formed comprising all the available judges of the Supreme Court. The Commission may consider five questions in particular.
What law enforcement agencies were responsible for protecting the caravan? Were prevailing security measures and standard operating procedures implemented to protect the caravan? And were they implemented?
The Prime Minister’s letter has said that what are the facts of the accident, the report of the presence of multiple shooters, retaliatory firing, the total number of victims, and what are the facts regarding the nature of their injuries?
Law enforcement and administrative authorities adopted the prevailing investigative procedures? After the incident, law enforcement agencies and administrative authorities adopted the prevailing procedures for gathering evidence and dealing with the situation.
It has been said in the letter that if this did not happen, what flaws and weaknesses of the regulation came to light, and which administrative authorities, law enforcement agencies, and officials of the provincial government were held responsible for these shortcomings of the regulation?
Are there deliberate obstructions in the investigation process of the incident, if so, who are these elements? And why are they doing this? Was it a murderous conspiracy that really aimed to kill the PTI Chairman or was it just an act of an individual? Who are the elements responsible for either of these two cases?
The Prime Minister’s letter states that in the interest of the rule of law, the federal government will be grateful for the implementation of this request and the federal government should provide full support to the commission in achieving this goal.
Due to the tragic incident of firing at Imran Khan’s procession in Wazirabad, the country is in a state of panic and a crisis of law and order. PTI leaders are making venomous speeches, violent riots are creating chaos in the state and threats to the lives and property of citizens.
It is being covered in Pakistani and international media. No FIR was filed after 72 hours, the Punjab government under PTI, unfortunately, did not take into account the legal requirements that are followed in such cases.
It is sad that the crime scene was not preserved, the container on which the incident took place, people were injured, it was also not taken into custody for forensics.
PTI Chairman’s medico-legal report was not even done, Imran Khan was taken to a private hospital which is not a medico-legal procedure as per law. The procedure followed after the incident raises doubts that the Punjab government and its officials could tamper with the evidence.
It has been further stated in the letter of the Minister that it is a show of malice not to adopt the prevailing procedure of investigation and collection of evidence. The federal government has already informed the provincial administration of its serious concerns by writing a letter in this regard.
Under the patronage of the governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, miscreants are carrying out violent attacks on private and government buildings, Governor House Punjab and other places. A dirty campaign of character assassination and baseless allegations is being waged against the state institutions, especially the armed forces.
Armed forces are being accused of conspiring with the federal government, in the opinion of the federal government, a Supreme Court commission is necessary for establishing the correct facts and public confidence.
The commission of the Supreme Court should determine the responsible, and bring the real facts. The Supreme Court has always played a key role in the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law. The current situation is a serious threat to public order and the state security of Pakistan. In these circumstances, it is the request of the federal government to form a judicial commission comprising all the available judges of the Supreme Court.
