In the Senate elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has surged ahead with 11 seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has secured six seats. The Muttahida Qaudmi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and an independent candidate, Faisal Vawda, have each captured one seat.
The polling, which took place across the National, Punjab, and Sindh assemblies, witnessed a total of 356 lawmakers participating in the elections. However, the Election Commission postponed the elections for 11 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seats due to the “denial” of oath-taking to the lawmakers elected on reserved seats.
Sindh Sees Strong PPP Performance
In Sindh, the PPP has demonstrated a dominant performance, winning 10 Senate seats. The MQM-P and an independent candidate also secured one seat each. Notable victories include Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Dost Ali Jessar, Kazim Ali Shah, Masroor Ahsan, and Nadeem Bhutto on general seats, along with Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani and Quratulain Marri on women’s seats. PPP’s Sarmad Ali and Zamir Ghumro secured technocrat seats.
Punjab Results
In Punjab, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and PML-N leader Musadik Malik clinched victories on technocrat seats. PML-N’s Anusha Rahman and Bushra Anjum Butt won on women’s seats, while Tahir Khalil Sindhu secured a minority seat.

ECP Postpones KP Senate Polls
The Election Commission of Pakistan postponed the Senate polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until the administration of oath to the elected members against the reserved seats. This decision came after opposition members filed a plea, citing a stand-off with the provincial government over oath-taking of MPAs-elect on reserved seats.
Future Course of Action
Former ECP secretary Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad emphasized that Senate elections in KP would remain postponed until the administration of oath to the MNAs-elect. He noted that the Senate chairman and deputy chairman elections cannot proceed until the KP Assembly conducts Senate polls.
