Islamabad: Preparations for local body elections in Islamabad have been resumed.
According to the sources, the ballot papers have been provided to all the returning officers while the ballot papers have been provided to the ROs by the District Returning Officer. Sources said that the returning officers were called today (Sunday) on a holiday to collect the ballot papers.
It should be noted that the Islamabad High Court, during the hearing held on December 30, had ordered that the local elections be held in the federal capital on December 31, while the federal government had apologized for the immediate security arrangements for the Islamabad local elections and the Election Commission Sources also declared it impossible to hold the election on December 31.
Later, the government and the Election Commission challenged the single bench’s decision to hold local body elections in Islamabad as per the schedule, but both the appeals were not fixed for hearing on Monday (January 2, 2023).
